It's Spring, Baby!

Spring is just around the corner with Summer chasing its heels, and the trends are coming in just as fast! I have taken to the internet so see what I could pull together, in a less intimidating setting. I feel like a disclaimer should be made. Fashion, like history is cyclical, meaning what has happened in the past will with almost certainty, happen again. That can be easily seen is some of these 2020 trends.

So far, the both seasons seem to be bringing in trends that could be considered more light, airy, and soft with a few punches of color here and there. Don’t get me wrong, there are a few trends that add a bit of edge too!

The first thing that I noticed and structure is in. Whether it is a new and improved trench coat, a square toed shoe, or a classic three piece suit. Strong lines in delicate color tones are really big this Spring. An easy way to add this trend into your wardrobe rotation is pulling one piece and replacing it with something that has a stronger line! For example, if you’re wearing a sweet and simple Summer dress throw on a blazer rather than a cardigan.

It might seem silly or even intimidating but by swapping out singular pieces, it make the change far less abrupt. Another easy addition to your outfit would be a square toed shoe, because who doesn't need another pair of shoes?

Something else that has been added to the fashion lineup is those vintage style puffed up sleeves that would traditionally be considered "Bishop Sleeves". I can't help myself, I have to tell you a little bit about Bishop Sleeves. They were first documented around the late 1800's and were popular will into the 20th century. These are not to be confused with her flamboyant sister, the Leg of Mutton sleeve. Thats a WHOLE different fashion moment. I can hear you skimming that portion, but hear me out, it fits in! According to the sources, that I will link, the Bishop Sleeve is making an appearance, and we're making it edgy. Buckle up babe.

I picked some of the more tame options. I also totally understand if any of those 80's babies out there have a cold shiver going down their spine looking at these sleeves. It's a total blast from the past, but at least theres less blue eyeshadow?

These sleeves are sometimes called balloon sleeves in modern media. I showed these combat boots to show off another trend, pairing girly styled dresses with something considered to be edgier and more masculine. It kind of throws off the original purpose of looking dainty in a dress and adds that rebellious attitude to it.

I always love when accessories are highlighted, because as I have undoubtably said before, that is the easies way to add trendiness to an outfit. Square toed shoes, wrapped ankles, and bucket bags have been marked as the "it" new items to add to your wardrobe.

The color palette for Spring/Summer is light washes of color, with the occasional punch of hue here and there. Im loving the scarlet and more vibrant green colors, they give me costal vacay vibes. Color is also another easy option to add into your wardrobe. If you're not sold on bucket bags and Bishop Sleeves, this is a safe option to go with.

This is just a short little list that highlights some of the newer trends that caught my eye. A few others not pictured are pattern matching throughout your outfit, lace accents, and slip style garments. I know I'll be on the look out for some more fun sleeved shirts and dresses!

I've left links to everything gathered to make this post possible. There are more far fetched and daring options for these trends, but I did my best to relate what would be considered avant garde, and make it practical for the "normal" consumer. I know we have all looked at runway and thought, "where and who would anyone wear that?"

Until next time!
