I have always had the overwhelming urge to create. It wasn't always a persistent force, but one that seems to come in as waves. Inspiration crashing down like that of a tsunami. I have been lucky enough to get the opportunity to create throughout my degree. My proudest piece thus far, and the one that is pictured, was my final project in my Textiles II class.

When it came to this project, I started in a totally different direction, but with the advisement of my amazing instructor, I as able to create something really spectacular.

The main part of this piece is the palm leaves, which are hand painted. I had never worked with acrylic paints, and didn't honestly know if it would turn out well. I was able to find a basic leaf and made a stencil from that and started by painting my leaves with a medium green color. I was then able to add dimension by layering darker and lighter colors on the leaves with varying shades of green. Finally, I fanned out black from the center of the leaves out to meet the denim. It made the leaves look like they were always part of the denim instead of an afterthought.

The embroidery and beading was the most difficult part. Not because it was overly technical, but it is easy to get wrapped up in doing it and end up with far too much detail. I used french knots for some of the texture on the leaves, and stop stitches for the beads. The beads give the jeans a good bit of reflection and the knots add visual interest making the piece less flat.

I'll do my best to update with future projects, I currently have my eye on making a gorgeous cowl neck/ hooded cape that I want to wear to a Ren Faire. Unfortunately, I am still in the planning stages for that one.
